In the meantime, some very meaningful games took place last weekend with major impacts. The Kansas City Chiefs my friends will NOT be undefeated in 2024. The Buffalo Bills made sure of that as quarterback Josh Allen made a strong push to become this season’s Most Valuable Player. 30-21 was the final in that one. In a very crucial AFC North matchup, the Pittsburgh Steelers…

The Dietary Guidelines for Advisory Committee (DGAC) recently released its Scientific Report, which serves as the basis for the 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA). It provides the government’s recommendations for what Americans should eat and drink to meet their nutrient needs, promote health and prevent disease. The report’s recommendations also include information on: Ultra-processed foods: The DGAC stated that limited evidence shows that diets with greater amounts of ultra-processed foods are associated with obesity or overweight in adults. They advised revisiting this aspect in five years when the next Committee is formed. Plant-based foods: Moderate evidence suggests that substituting…

Ababei et al have published an interesting review of renin-angiotensin modulators in Alzheimer’s Type Dementia. The referenced paper is a highly technical article geared towards healthcare professionals and scientists. In summary, they review a broad range of renin-angiotensin modulators from the perspective of influencing cognitive decline both in human and animal studies. The evidence is not just restricted to Alzheimer’s Type Dementia but includes Vascular Dementia in some studies for example. I would say that they provide some intriguing evidence that ticks lots of boxes. The pharmaceutical agents are mostly already approved for clinical practice for other indications. This means…

Week 12 of the NFL season is in the books and once again, there were winners that were not expected to be victorious. We begin with my team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, who were in a snow blinding battle in Cleveland with the Browns. Steelers wide receiver George Pickens tried to blame the weather and referees for losing but the fact is, the defense had a letdown as did some of the offense. Pittsburgh was obviously not prepared for a team that in the preseason was predicted to be particularly good and, on this night, Myles Garrett showed up T.J. Watt…
