Much has been said about the proper way to lose weight.
Many believe that diet plays the most crucial role.
As a result, fad diets and appetite-suppressing products remain popular among those who want to eat less in hopes of losing more weight.
Yet one essential factor is often overlooked.
“Sleep,” Dr. Jan Dipasupil pointed out during his exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in March 2026.
A specialist in Obesity and Lifestyle Medicine, he is the founder of Jan Medical Group, an emerging player in the healthcare, lifestyle, and beauty industry.
“But we are not an aesthetic clinic,” Dr. Jan clarified.
“Because a lot of people come to us not just to look beautiful. Or even to those who want to lose weight, it goes beyond looking sexy.
“There are a lot of reasons why people want to lose weight.
“Some siguro, they want to get pregnant. They want to start a family.
“Some may have hormonal imbalance because of PCOS [Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome].
“Some simply want to be healthier.”
LOSING WEIGHT: THE FIRST STEP
Weight loss is not a simple journey that begins with the desire to reach a target and ends with achieving it.
Dr. Jan said: “A client may have this mindset, ‘Gusto ko pumayat, Doc, para sa summer.’
“That’s the client’s motivation.
“But my goal is to help the client, lead her toward healthier habits and lifestyle.”
So, when a walk-in client shows up, what happens first at the clinic?
Dr. Jan answered, “Screening,” which is essentially checking three factors that affect weight.
He continued, “Number one, sleep. Number two, food. Number three, physical being.”
PEP threw in: So it’s not food?
“Yes. Because sleep controls your hunger.”
Additional research led this writer to these information.
According to the websites of the National Institutes of Health and Mayo Clinic, sleep is more than just a rest.

Beyond affecting hunger, it affects how the body stores fat and uses energy.
Lack of sleep increases Gherkin or the hunger hormones and decreases Leptin or the fullness hormone.
The Jan Medical Group offers a Mindful Program, which, according to the clinic’s website, “encourages better restorative sleep.”
This is powered by The ExoMind, “a non-invasive technology designed to support the nervous system during times of high metabolic and mental demand.”

PERSONAL REVIEW: EXOMIND
I tried it for 30 minutes, and it was pure relaxation. I felt so sleepy during the session that even after it ended, I could barely keep my eyes open—and it wasn’t even 8:00 P.M. yet!
In the following days, I naturally started feeling sleepy around 9:00 P.M., as if the session had trained my brain to wind down at that exact time. Unfortunately, after resisting the sleepiness a few times, I lost the momentum.
Back to the screening process, Dr. Jan emphasized that it is a crucial step at the clinic, as it helps identify any underlying medical conditions that may affect the results.
“Sometimes, some patients may complain they’re not seeing the desired result, yun pala, may hormonal problem.
“So laboratory tests may be required to know the program we will recommend.”
LOSING WEIGHT: THE PROCESS
After the screening, the doctor will recommend a program.
Dr. Jan said: “It can either be oral or injectable and/or machine.
“Though medication is not well known in the market, but during the pandemic, nag-peak siya because of Ozempic,” which is a prescription medication for people with type 2 diabetes, but it reportedly reduces appetite by slowing digestion and increasing feelings of fullness.
Based on the experiences of the clinic’s patrons, Dr. Jan said weight loss typically ranges from “two to eight kilos or 4.4 to 17.6 pounds in three weeks.”
However, he emphasized that there is a baseline to consider.
“So if you’re 172, that’s minus 16 pounds, e, di 156 yun. Huwag kang mag-expect ng 140.”
He added that results still depend on the client’s starting weight, noting that progress is better measured in percentages rather than fixed numbers.
Expounding on this, Dr. Jan explained: “So kunwari, you started from, let’s say the baseline is 100 kilograms, and then yung gusto niyo ng five-to-fifteen-kilogram weight loss in every three months.
“So the 15% of that 100 kilograms, so that’s your 15 kilos. So yun yung maximum na we could do in about, uh, in three months.”
Dr. Jan was proud to say. “Marami ring nag-graduate…the healthy way.”
The program may include a diet guide from a nutritionist, along with exercise recommendations if the client needs them.
How much? The range is from PHP12,000 to PHP20,000 per month.

LOSING WEIGHT: THE AFTERMATH
Dr. Jan said the program takes into account its long-term effects on clients.
“So, no to crash diets. Pag bumaba ang protein mo, yung muscles mo, maglu-lose.
“That’s not a good weight loss kasi you have already affected a lot of muscles.
“Muscle loss po siya. And it could potentially slow down the metabolism. Kaya on the next phase, let’s say you wanted to lose weight again in the next three or five years, it’s much harder because you’ve lost a lot of muscle.”
Besides, he doesn’t want the client to have “gaunt face and the posture is not that good.”
He added: “Pumayat pero mukhang maysakit. We do not want that.”
Dr. Jan also check the sagging of the skin after the program.
“One of the effects kasi of weight loss is babagsak ang skin, we want to lift it.
“Dito papasok ang mga machines.”
He mentioned the EmFace, which, according to the clinic’s website, is “designed to lift the cheek and brow area.”

There’s also the Exion, an “advanced contour refinement and remodeling for weight-related laxity,” according to the clinic’s website.
Dr. Jan added: “EmFace is for the muscles. There is like, a minimum session for that. It’s about four sessions for you to see results.
“Exion is for the skin. It’s the favorite of Kim Kardashian.”

How much? The Exion starts at “PHP6,995 per session.”
Every step of your transformation, a doctor and even Dr. Jan himself is by your side.
He said: “I was obese myself. Confidence was one of my problems.
“From the beginning, it was clear in my head na I want to go for a specialty devoted on weight management.
“I experienced how hard it is to lose weight by yourself.”
The clinic exudes a posh ambiance, with the scent of an Aesop diffuser immediately greeting guests upon entry.

When he’s not attending to a client, Dr. Jan may even personally welcome you.
He’s youthful, approachable, and it’s hard to believe he has been in the industry for over a decade.
He now has two clinics to his name: one in Quezon City on the second floor of Bengar Building along Del Monte Avenue corner Biak na Bato, opened in 2022; another in Bonifacio Global City on the third floor of Park Triangle Mall along 32nd Street corner 11th Avenue and Rizal Drive, opened in February 2026.
But it’s not just about programs or quick results, based on this intevriew, what Dr. Jan offers is a lifestyle that sticks, transforming not only the body but the way clients approach health and wellness.
