Self care is defined in the Oxford Dictionary as “the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own wellbeing and happiness”.You will often hear people say they don’t have time for self care because they are so busy with work , parenting or taking care of elderly relatives.Self care is not only about meditation or going to the gym ,it also icludes examining your priorities, setting boundaries and having a healthy sleep rituals eg going to bed earlier.Dr Groppel co-author of “The Corporate Athlete:How to Achieve Maximal Performance in Business and Life” says self care “can be exercise, creating boundaries. It’s keeping yourself safe emotionally.”He advises writing out how you spend your time in a typical day and to ask yourself what one or two hour period in your day you are at your best. He says you should then ask yourself “who gets those hours?”.Gifting yourself time to focus on your values and goals is essential self care. Taking time for a Bath,Tai Chi , Yoga and meditation are important self care habits but their benefits will be undermined if we don’t take time daily to focus on our goals and values. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corporate-Athlete-Achieve-Performance-Business/dp/0671784838
