The Bermuda Mental Health Foundation paid tribute yesterday to Butterfield Bank, naming it the winner of an Employer’s Fundraising Competition.

The competition stemmed from the Steps to Mental Wellness 5K Walk held last month.

Vaughn Mosher, of the Bermuda Mental Health Foundation, said 11 companies and organisations took part in the walk, but of the 254 people registered to take part, 26 came from the Butterfield Bank team.

“By my maths, that’s about 10 per cent,” he said. “Their commitment to standing with us for mental health awareness is inspiring and deeply appreciated.”

A spokeswoman for the bank said that members of the organisation were happy to be able to play their part and looked forward to participating again next year “rain or shine”.

Mr Mosher also praised the support of CG Insurance and Zest Wellness.

He said: “Your contributions have been instrumental in making this initiative possible, and we deeply value your dedication to this cause.”

At a press conference held outside CG Insurance on Reid Street, Mr Mosher said the Steps to Mental Wellness Walk had grown in significance since it was launched last year.

“It has become a powerful symbol of resilience, of unity,” he said. “Together, we have taken strides to break down the stigma surrounding mental illness and to create a more supportive environment where everyone feels seen, heard and valued.

“This year, every step taken by our participants reflects a commitment to build a healthier, more inclusive Bermuda for those facing mental health challenges.”

He added: “Together, we are paving the way for greater awareness, better access to care and a stronger and more compassionate community.”
