This incredibly simple, yet absolutely delicious warm-weather appetizer comes from wayyy back in the AK archives. Picture this: it’s the summer of 2017, Abra and I were testing summer recipes during her first year working with me, and Tony and I were busy planning our wedding (OMG).
These delicious roasted strawberry goat cheese crostini come from the “Happy Hour” chapter of my friend Kathryne’s cookbook, Love Real Food, which she had just published! You probably know her as Cookie + Kate — she’s an OG food blogger and cookbook author who’s been making wonderful, wholesome recipes for years.
I absolutely LOVE this recipe because it’s the perfect balance of simplicity and sophistication. AKA I can whip these up with a few simple ingredients and feel a lil’ fancy at the same time. The perfect spring or summer app for entertaining!
Everything you’ll need to make these roasted strawberry crostini
Beautiful, ripe strawberries are tossed in a little honey before they’re popped into the oven, and the simple combo smells SO GOOD. They get super tender and the juice is gorgeous for drizzling over the crispy toasts.
The flavors on these cute little crostini have the perfect amount of sweetness, creaminess, and freshness. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Goat cheese: you’ll spread creamy, tangy goat cheese as the base of each crostini.
- Strawberries: the star of the show! We’re roasting these babies up so they get super juicy.
- Honey: you’ll toss the strawberries in a little honey before roasting for extra delicious sweetness.
- Bread: slice a whole-grain baguette or small loaf of bread for the crostini base. You’ll just need a little olive oil to brush each side before toasting in the oven.
- Basil: finish off each crostini with freshly torn basil for a lovely, herby element.
Add a kick of heat
If you love sweet, savory, and spicy together, swap the honey for hot honey! You can find hot honey at the store or you can make it right at home by mixing together 2 tablespoons of honey with 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper.
Customize your strawberry goat cheese crostini
Feel free to mix up your flavors to really make these crostini your own! Here’s what I can recommend:
- Try a new fruit. I think roasted cherries or peaches would also be delicious.
- Pick your cheese. Not a fan of goat cheese? Swap it for another mild, soft cheese like cream cheese, ricotta, burrata, or even whipped cottage cheese.
- Add a crunch. A sprinkle of chopped, roasted pistachios would be lovely.
- Add a drizzle. If you love tangy flavors, I think a drizzle of balsamic glaze would be incredible.
Can I make it gluten-free or dairy-free?
- To make gluten-free: swap the regular baguette with a sturdy, gluten-free bread.
- To make dairy-free: use a spreadable, soft vegan cheese in place of the cottage cheese. Vegan cream cheese would work well!
Storing tips
These roasted strawberry goat cheese crostini are best when enjoyed the day of, so I’d recommend only assembling ones that will be eaten.

Easy Roasted Strawberry Goat Cheese Crostini

Beautiful roasted strawberry goat cheese crostini made with six simple ingredients and bursting with fresh flavor. These easy strawberry goat cheese crostini make the perfect spring or summer appetizer!
Ingredients
- 4 to 5 ounces goat cheese
- 1 pound strawberries, hulled and cut into bite-size pieces
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 whole-grain baguette or small loaf of crusty whole-grain bread (about 14 ounces), cut into ½-inch slices
- Small handful of fresh basil leaves, torn into little pieces
- Freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F with racks in the middle and upper third of the oven. Line two large rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper for easier cleanup. Set the goat cheese on the counter to soften up a bit.
-
On one baking sheet, toss the strawberries with the honey, then spread the strawberries into a single layer. Bake on the upper rack until the fruit is tender, juicy, and collapses on itself, 20 to 25 minutes, tossing halfway. Watch the fruit on the edges of the pan, as the honey can burn quickly.
-
Meanwhile, on the remaining baking sheet, brush the olive oil lightly over both sides of each slice of bread. Bake on the middle rack until the toasts are golden on top, 10 to 12 minutes.
-
Once the toasts are cool enough to safely handle, top each one with a smear of goat cheese, followed by a spoonful of roasted strawberries and their juices. Finish off the crostini with a sprinkling of torn basil and black pepper. Crostini are best served immediately.
