Continuing on from the reflections on Professor Karl Jaspers ‘General Psychopathology’, i’m making a few notes on Professor Kurt Schneider’s ‘Clinical Psychopathology’ (Schneider, 1959) and adding some reflections. The edition I have is from 1959 and is a translation based on the fifth revised edition of ‘Klinische Psychopathologie’ which was published by Georg Theime Verlage, Stuttgart. This translation is published by Grune & Stratton in New York. The translation is by M.W.Hamilton in the University of Manchester Psychiatry department. This edition is 173 pages. On page 133 in the chapter on cyclothymia and schizophrenia, Schneider writes about the first rank…
China has granted approval for a Pfizer GLP-1 based medication for weight management, marking a significant milestone in the country’s rapidly expanding market for obesity and metabolic-health therapies. The authorization positions Pfizer to compete in one of the fastest-growing segments of the pharmaceutical industry, where drugs targeting appetite regulation and metabolic pathways are transforming treatment options for millions of patients. GLP-1 receptor agonists have gained global attention in recent years due to their ability to help patients lose weight while also improving blood-sugar control. Originally developed for treating type-2 diabetes, these medications mimic a natural hormone involved in regulating appetite…
Here’s something interesting: the gap between an average shooter and an exceptional marksman often isn’t about natural talent, it’s about the accessories they choose. In competitive shooting sports and professional applications, the right accessories act as force multipliers that can dramatically transform accuracy, speed, and overall performance. When competitors understand exactly how various accessories contribute to shooting excellence, they’re able to make smarter decisions about where to invest their equipment budget. From optical enhancements that change how you see targets to grip modifications that transform how you control your firearm, each accessory plays a distinct role in optimizing capabilities and…
I shared this salad a few years back and just had to bring it out again. This salad was inspired by one of my go-to take out spots in Chicago and their fabulous kale salad, and I *still* can’t get enough. This sweet potato kale salad recipe is made with the most ridiculously good garlic tahini dressing, plus roasted sweet potatoes, crunchy wasabi peas, sweet cranberries, creamy avocado, and my special touch: sweet and spicy toasted pistachios. Trust your girl and make this salad. I crave it all the time. It’s perfect with a hearty protein like chicken or salmon,…
Maintaining one’s health and wellbeing is a lifelong commitment that requires consistent attention. While access to mental health resources remains scarce for the majority of South Africans, those with medical aid often have a wealth of benefits at their fingertips — many of which remain underutilised. There are a number of potential reasons for this, including a lack of awareness regarding inclusions in their medical aid plan. It is also reinforced by the stigma and negative social attitudes surrounding mental illness. The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) anticipates that one in three South Africans will be diagnosed with a…
Many parents want their children to eat well and feel confident in their bodies. But in today’s culture—where diet messages, body ideals, and food rules are everywhere—it can feel difficult to know how to support a healthy relationship with food. Research shows that children begin developing attitudes toward food and body image early in life, and the family environment plays a major role in shaping those beliefs and behaviors. What parents say about food, how meals are structured, and how bodies are talked about at home can all influence how children learn to eat and care for their bodies. Rather…
Alex & SonjaHi there! We’re Alex & Sonja Overhiser, authors of two cookbooks, busy parents, and a real life couple who cooks together. We founded the A Couple Cooks website in 2010 to share simple, seasonal recipes and the joy of cooking. We now offer thousands of original recipes, cooking tips, and meal planning ideas—all written and photographed by the two of us (and tested on our kids!).
When it comes to health and longevity, most of us focus on what we eat or how we move. But research shows that how consistently we do things—from waking up at the same time to eating on a schedule—may be just as important. The pivotal role of routine Routine strengthens brain networks, stabilizes mood, and supports metabolic and hormonal balance—especially as we get older. “Routine is pivotal as we age and experience hormonal deficiencies,” says Michael Mason-Wood, ND, co-founder of Natural Terrain, a naturopathic clinic in Edmonton, AB. Tanya Lee, a Toronto-based naturopath, indicates that aging bodies require more energy,…
Fearing that she would not be given a fair chance if she was upfront about her condition, she chose not to declare her mental health in a job application in 2020. After receiving a verbal offer, she was later contacted by the employer who after doing a background check questioned why she had not disclosed her conditions. Ms Siti Khadijah said the offer was subsequently rescinded with the employer explaining that it was due to her non-disclosure. From then on, Ms Siti Khadijah provided potential employers with a doctor’s note that stated her condition and certified that she was fit to work, and…
