A growing problemStephanie Jaret’s daughter was born prematurely and spent a month in the infant special care unit. “She was displaying feeding issues that the staff dismissed, and they diagnosed her with a heart condition,” says Jaret. Salmon usually comes to mind when thinking of omega-3 fatty acids. A research review has however determined that alpha-linolenic acid, the primary plant-based nutrient version known as ALA, can be beneficial for heart health and help to reduce heart disease risk for people who don’t consume seafood.
